Musculoskeletal ultrasound should only be performed by health professionals who have been adequately trained using up-to-date equipment.
Each ultrasound exam should be fully documented in the patient chart with patient data, joint examined and description of findings.
The Canadian Rheumatology Ultrasound Society currently offers certification for rheumatologists participating in the CRUS musculoskeletal ultrasound course. Certification standards for a more extensive certification in musculoskeletal ultrasound for rheumatologist are currently being developed.
